Interview with Mr. Stücke, the head-teacher 02.04.´03

1.) How many boys and girls are in our school and how many teachers work here?

There are about 720 boys and girls in our school. This year there are 717 pupils! At the moment there are 50 teachers working here.

2.) Do you help working of the exchange of the pupils?

Yes, Mrs. Münstermann-Lohn and Mrs. Bensberg, all these people, who work also at the project to communicate with the other people (teacher) of the other countries. I’m very interested in this exchange to make it work.

3.) How did you get the idea to open a cafe for pupils?

That is a very old idea of me to give pupils the opportunity to talk in a good atmosphere with other pupils and an adult who is not a teacher and who can have a close contact to them, so that they can talk about their problems.

4.) Did you go to an exchange any time (as a teacher)?

Not really. I went to many class-excursions in former times but not a direct exchange like with Lorgues or Virginia. I did not do the whole organisations directly.

5.) What do you like best at this school?

I think that our school is the most beautiful building and it is the nicest and best school. At our school I think it is very exciting to see that the relationship between pupils and teachers is very good and that we can give the pupils some freeness.

6.) What do you hope to reach with this project?

I hope that the contact between our and the foreign pupils gets more intensive. When young people talk together they get to know the arguments of the other side (the opinion of the other pupils) and to get to know each other better. Mrs Münstermann-Lohn and I are trying to talk with many countries in one time. When pupils work together for one project they feel tied to each other.

7.) Did you already often have connections with other schools of the EU?

Well, I`ve connections with schools in France, Belgium and the Netherlands. My subject is french, because of that I’ve connections with schools in France. The other schools with which I’ve still connections are in Canada, Poland and Australia.

8.)Which and how many events take place at our school in one year`?

In one year there are 8 to 10 events. For example: Schulfest (school-party), Mauritius-Preis (Mauritius-Prize), Mauritius-Abend (Mauritius-Evening), Weihnachtskonzert (Christmas-Concert) etc.

9.) What is the difference between our private and a public school?

Our school is a replacement for a public school! We are so called private school, which is paid by a club. That means we can choose our teachers ourselves.

10.) What did you change at our school in the time, when you were head-teacher?

Well, I think a lot. We renovated our school outside and inside! We have a lot of computers and EDV at our school. At the moment we are working on our sport-hall. Now we have individual distribution of school-subjects.

11.) What can pupils do outside the school? (bands, projects etc.)

Well, they can do a lot of things. During the week of projects, when the pupils can work at the Comenius-Project, they also can engage themselves helping in the Cafe. And perhaps they have new and good ideas to make it better.
