Schoolsystem in Germany

How we are tought in school

Six year old children are put to school. School is made up of 4 grades. If a student has passed fourth grade, you have to decide, if he should visit an intermediate school, a "Realschule" or a secondary school. Intermediate school and "Realschule" end with 10th class. The secondary school though takes 9 grades, so you have to go to school up to the 13th grade. Here the students haven't got classes but courses. The Abitur is the final examination, if you pass 13th grade (now you can visit any university).

Facts about our school

MauLogo
Our school, a grammar school, has 725 pupils (in the morning most of them drive with the bus to Büren) and about 45 teachers. A school day begins at 7.45 and finishes for most of the pupils at 13.00. Only older pupils may have to stay longer at school, for example until 13.50. So everybody can have lunch at home.
