Representation of students in our school
Usually, every school has one representant of the student body. At the Mauritius-Gymnasium, it has been a tradition that a team of students volunteers to do this job. This year, this team consists of
Lea Weitekamp (grade 13), Jan Mertens (grade 12) and Constantin Homann (grade 12), Mauritius-Gymnasium, Büren
We help all the pupils at our school who have questions or problems, which they alone cannot solve.
Furthermore we represent the student body in school conferences and make sure that our principal and the teachers do not decide anything against our will. This is probably our most important task.
Of course we also try to lighten up the grey every-day routine at our school from time to time. For example, every fifth-grade student receives a little gift on St. Nicholas-Day. On Valentines Day, you can order a rose for your lover and we will deliver it to her (or to him..) during class.
In addition to these special events we have also designed a school-shirt which every student at our school can buy.
The best idea to improve school life probably was the Mauritius-Café, a big, comfortable café just for the students. Since December 2003, this café is adjoined by an Internet café, which can be used by elder students for studying and research. We helped both with the planning and the realisation of those ideas.
Sometimes one of us has to hold a short speech at important school events, and we are also supposed to represent our school in public.
You can see that it is the variety of tasks, which makes our job so interesting.
