Maria Alonso Álvarez was born 7th of march of 1930 in Oviedo, Astúrias. She had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Her father was a teacher of mathematics and her mother was a house keaper. |

When she was 3 years old she started to study in "Las Escuelas Pías d'Oviedo" but because of the civil war she stopped it and left Asturias and her country because her father was in jail and killed by the "facists". María was only 5 years old and stayed with her parents' friend in Girona. She couldn't meet her mother and brothers in France border. The lady with what lived was ill and died, so she was alone at 8 years old and suffered hunger and misery until she met Joaquim and Rosa -a couple without any children- so she stayed with them. She went back to school in "Les Dominiques".

She could contact again with her mother and brothers when she was 19 by the "International Red Cross" She visited them but decided to stay in Girona. She met Jordi and married him one year after. |

Although she had a short education,( basically the only that obtained the few years that she went to the Dominiques), is a quite cultured person, since it was able by she herself and her liking to reading to learn new things. Also it has helped she to improve culturally diverse courses of Catalan language. As she always has thought that it's important that the women have a good education to have a labor future and to assure their independent economic, insisted much on which their daughters studied and worked although they had children would. Their two daughters was married and she has helped them to take care of the children. |

Jordi, in 1995 became ill, he suffered an alzaimer, and he died soon after. At the moment Maria lives with one of her daughters, her son-in-law and her grandsons. After crossing a very intense life, now she lives with the hope to have a placid future. |
